island Goree by Fenda Soumaré

Island Gorée is located in the north Atlantic Ocean in Senegal. Goree one of 19 county boroughs in the capital. It is a symbol instead of the memory of the slave trade in Africa.
Goreé Island, rich in history, is probably the area's favorite and most famous tourist attraction.  One of the most frequently visited sites is the Maison des Esclaves (Slave House). Built by the Dutch in 1776, the slave house has been preserved in its original state.  Other points of interest include the Church, the picturesque ruins of Fort Nassau, Saint Michel (the Castle) and the Historical Museum in the old Fort Estrees.  There is a small swimming beach near the ferry slip.

Located 4 miles off Dakar, twenty minutes by boat (see schedule of the boat), Goree Island is one of the most endearing parts of Senegal.
It is characterized by an architecture perfectly homogeneous, and if this were the Tens of black children playing in its streets and the baobab trees and  growing throughout the visitor would think more easily in a Provencal village.
